GATR Technologies Begins Full Rate Production of SATCOM Antenna for USMC under $440M Contract

GATR Technologies has begun full rate production of the SATCOM (satellite communications) antenna for the United States Marine Corps under a $440 million contract. This will be the first batch of the satellites, with thirty-six units being made. The total number to be made is not yet determined, as it is an indefinite-quantity contract.

It will be manufactured for the high-bandwidth special intelligence-palletized terminal (HBSI-PT) program of the US Marine Corps. The units are all tested thoroughly, and measured to the highest standard by the Marines.

"The Program of Record means the Marine Corps has vetted GATR's Inflatable Satellite Antenna (ISA) capabilities and performance through extensive testing to DoD standards, such as MIL-STD-810G environmental compliance and ARSTRAT WGS certification,”

GATR Marine Corps program manager Victor Vega said. "It also means that our commercial technology is now a catalogued system in the DoD logistics stream."

GATR was very grateful for the opportunity, and believes their technology is the right fit for the job at hand. One of the key features they offered is the ability to carry the antenna in a compression bag weighing only twenty-two pounds. The whole system is relatively lightweight, at under 100 pounds.

“We were extremely fortunate to leverage early Small Business Innovative Research contracts and Quick Reaction Funding from the Defense Department to help us initially field and improve our technology,”

GATR president Paul Gierow added.

The program is managed by Marine Corps Systems Command's (MARCORSYCOM) sensitive compartmented information (SCI) communications project team, under the direction of product manager networking and satellite communications (PdM NSC).

The program has reached some important milestones over the years:

• Trojan Spirit Palletized system is Post Milestone C
• High Bandwidth Special Intelligence Palletized Terminal (HBSI-PT) system awaiting MDD
• ECCS SCI Kit (SCIK) is in FRP and will be fielded in 2^nd Quarter of FY14
