Caterpillar Marine Powers Republic of Korea Navy’s 16 New Patrol Boats

In June 2015, Caterpillar Marine announced that they have secured an order to deliver their Cat Power Solutions system to power 16 patrol boats that are being built for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). Each of the boats in the series will have two Cat C32 main propulsion diesel engines as well as two Cat C9 ship service diesel generators. The boats will be constructed at the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction shipyard in Korea. Cat dealer Hae In will manage the delivery and subsequent service of the Cat solutions.

Y.S. Kwak, Hae in Power Systems’ general manager, is looking forward to the project. He said in a statement: "The Korean Navy Patrol Boat project is a significant milestone for both Hae In Corporation and Caterpillar Marine as it reiterates that Cat marine products have passed the high standards of the Korean Government. Our products are well-suited for the demanding navy patrol segment."

Caterpillar defense and federal products sales consultant Neil Vaughan also released a statement:

"Working directly with Hae In sales and engineering, we are now in a position to complete the detailed design and deliver this integrated product to the ROKN."

The Cat C32 is a V-12, 4-stroke-diesel engine and it meets the IMO II emissions regulations while the propulsion system is electronically governed and features the ADEM A4 electronic control unit. According to Cat, the engine has already accumulated hundreds of thousands of hours operating on vessels around the globe. Hae In will also be responsible for delivering the reduction gear and Cat local operating panel which integrates control, alarm and monitoring functions of the C32 and reduction gear.
