The United States Navy’s twin-engine supersonic, multirole combat jet, the F-18 Hornet, has been experiencing issues with its On-Board Oxygen Generation System (OBOGS), as the Navy has been continuously searching for a fix for five years. The system failure, while rare, could potentially kill the aircraft’s pilot due to in-flight oxygen deprivation, consequently costing a pilot’s life as well as potentially destroying a $30 million to $60 million aircraft.

Saab has subcontracted OSI Maritime Systems to deliver its tactical dived navigation systems for Royal Swedish Navy’s two new A26 submarines. It is the market’s leading and most comprehensive submarine navigation software available. OSI will be designing, constructing, integrating, and setting to work a tactical dived navigation system (TDNS) for each of the submarines.

The US Navy and BAE Systems delivered 110 advanced precision kill weapons system (APKWS) to Jordan, which makes it the first country to receive the system as an international partner. The APKWS will be used on the Jordanian CASA CN-235 light gunship aircraft. This order was placed back in 2014 through a foreign military sale (FMS).

Saab has begun construction of the Swedish Navy’s first A26 next-generation submarine after a September 4th ceremony at their Kockums shipyard in Karlskrona, Sweden. This comes after Saab signed contracts worth the equivalent of $919 million with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration to deliver two new Type A26 submarines. In addition, a $252.23 million contract was also placed to overhaul their existing Gotland-class subs.

The US Navy awarded iRobot a contract worth $4 million for 110 FirstLook robots. Deliveries under this $4m contract are expected to be completed by February next year. iRobot's 110 FirstLook is a compact and expandable robot designed to offer immediate situational awareness and to perform persistent observation while also capable of investigating and manipulating dangerous and hazardous materials.

In a ceremony taking place at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia over the weekend, the US Navy commissioned its newest Virginia-class submarine as USS John Warner (SSN 785). The commissioning was presided over by John Warner himself (who served as Secretary of the Navy from 1972 to 1974), Director of Naval Reactors and prospective Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral John Richardson, and current CNO Admiral Jonathan Greenert.
