Harris to Supply US Air National Guard with Vehicle Communication Systems

On January 27, 2015, the American telecommunications equipment company, Harris Corporation, was awarded a contract by the US Air National Guard to provide integrated tactical and land mobile radio communication systems. These communication systems include a five-channel vehicle communication system that will play a big role in ground-to-air correspondence in situations such as wartime, domestic emergency responses, and natural disasters. In addition to providing hardware to the US Air National Guard, the contract also calls for Harris Corporation to cover installation, training, and continuous service and support.

The five-channel communication system will utilize Harris Corporation’s wideband tactical radio solutions. Such radio systems include the Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband man pack radios, the RF-7800I advanced vehicle intercom system, and the Unity XG-100M full-spectrum multiband mobile radio.

Specifications and features of said communication systems include:

Falcon III AN/PRC-117G: Features a software-defined, upgradable voice and data platform for processes including convoy tracing, intelligence recording and analysis, cooperative communications, course forecasting, and medical evacuation tasks. With a frequency range of 30MHz to 2GHz, the Falcon III AN/PRC-117G can produce simultaneous transmissions of voice and data feeds.

RF-7800I: Specialized for vehicle use, this system will permit users to communicate within the vehicle and can also integrate with other tactical vehicle/handheld radio systems.

Unity XG-100M: This full-spectrum radio will allow users to communicate with several jurisdictions and organizations functioning on multiple frequencies and systems. This radio is the only mobile on the market that is be able to utilize APCO P25 secure and analogue FM communications across VHF, UHF, and 700MHz to 800MHz bands.

By producing an advanced system, Harris looks to provide a bridge between tactical and civilian responders all while giving the US Air National Guard the ability to quickly respond to all calls for aid and coordination.
