USMC Orders 75 iRobot Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles

iRobot

The United States Marine Corps has ordered 75 small unmanned ground vehicles from iRobot to assist in missions. The man-portable SUGV features dexterous manipulation for dismounted mobile operations. The SUGV is a smaller and lighter version of iRobot PackBot which is designed to allow exploratory functions in small and inaccessible places as well as terrains and situations that are dangerous. Among its chief advantages is offering situational awareness for infantry troops, combat engineers, EOD technicians, and other personnel.

Tom Frost, senior vice president and general manager of iRobot's Defense & Security business unit, proudly endorses the SUGV stating, --

“Rugged, lightweight robots like SUGV enable a safer and more effective way to conduct a variety of dangerous missions. As threats persist globally, iRobot is proud to continue partnering with our defense forces to provide this life-saving technology”.

iRobot has received a $9.8 million order from the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command for 75 SUGV robot systems and all deliveries under the order are expected to be completed by Q2 2016.
