US Navy and Raytheon Complete Preliminary Design Review of Next Generation Jammer Program

The Raytheon Company, a major American industrial corporation and defense contractor, has recently completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for the Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) program in collaboration with the United States Navy. This event marks a vital milestone in the acquisition process.

"Raytheon and the Navy have made system engineering process discipline a top priority from the outset of the NGJ program,"

said the vice president of Electronic Warfare Systems at Raytheon’s Space and Airborne Systems, Travis Slocumb.

"The successful completion of PDR is indicative of the strength of our partnership, and we will apply that same focus as we move into the follow-on phases of the program."

The Next Generation Jammer, which is expected to provide various new capabilities for the United States Navy’s EA-18G Growler, is anticipated to replace the legacy ALQ-99 jamming pods. The United States Navy intends on declaring Initial Operating Capability for the Next Generation Jammer in the year of 2021.

"The Jammer's open architecture design, coupled with high-powered, solid state electronics and agile jamming techniques, will enable us to meet U.S. Navy electronic warfare mission requirements while ensuring the affordability of future upgrades,"

said the director of Airborne Electronic Attack programs for Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems, Daniel Theisen.

The Raytheon Company has been a technology and innovation leader with 2014 sales of $23 billion and around 61,000 employees worldwide. The company specializes in civil, government, defense, and cybersecurity markets across the world. The Raytheon Company was competitively selected by the United States Navy in July of 2013 for this $279.4 million contract in order to conduct the technology development phase of the program.
