Saab Subcontracts OSI to Deliver Tactical Dived Navigation Systems for Swedish Navy’s A26 Submarines

Saab has subcontracted OSI Maritime Systems to deliver its tactical dived navigation systems for Royal Swedish Navy’s two new A26 submarines. It is the market’s leading and most comprehensive submarine navigation software available. OSI will be designing, constructing, integrating, and setting to work a tactical dived navigation system (TDNS) for each of the submarines.

The navigation system will provide the A26 submarine with a very wide range of navigational capacity and the tactical features that will improve the operational capacity of the submarine and the overall dived navigation safety. It has also been successfully interfaced with a selection of submarine-specific Combat and Fire Control Systems making it a low risk and ideal solution to submarine navigation. Some of the navigation’s safety improvements include:

• Advanced navigation fixing techniques: ENS and Raster Charts
• Bottom Contour Fixing
• Line of Soundings Fixing
• 3D Chart display
• Vertical Sextant Angels
• Automatic and Manual pool of errors calculation, future prediction of POE, PoE reduction through a variety of means
• Target motion analysis
• Water space management and moving havens
• Fully supports the construction of dived navigation charts

The new A26 is also known to be the world’s most modern submarine program. The program will be able to operate in all oceans and across a broad spectrum of conflict environments.

Saab has begun their construction work on the next-generation submarines with its expected delivery to begin in 2022 and be completed by 2024.
