U.S. Air Force Awards Rolls Royce 2 Contracts worth $153 Million

The U.S. Department of Defense recently announced that Rolls Royce has been awarded two contracts by the Airforce, each worth more than $70 million. The contracts are meant to provide logistics, supplies and propulsion system sustainment for the Airforce’s C-130J aircraft. The first contract is worth approximately $77 million and requires Rolls Royce to supply 24 spare AE2100DE engines to the Airforce. These engines will then be delivered to Saudi Arabia. The AE2100D3 engine is built to power high-speed regional aircrafts as well as maritime patrol aircrafts. It has a power range of between 3600 shaft horsepower and 4700 shaft horsepower.

The C130J Super Hercules aircraft is an airlifter manufactured by Lockheed Martin. It is designed mainly for transporting cargo, troops and equipment into and out of combat zones. In addition to combat missions the C-130J can also be used for firefighting, aircraft refueling, humanitarian missions as well as search and rescue missions.

In addition to the contract requirements listed above for one of the contracts, Rolls Royce was also awarded a second contract valued at $76 million. In this contract Rolls Royce is required to provide propulsion system sustainment to the Airforce’s C130J aircraft. This sustainment will be done by providing management and logistics support in addition to technical support and engineering services for the aircrafts’ propulsion systems. Rolls Royce will perform work on the aircrafts in both contracts in Indianapolis, IN and the work required for both contracts are expected to completed by the end of February 2017.
