Rolls-Royce Increases Production in Singapore

Rolls-Royce, the British car manufacturer and aero-engine manufacturer, has been striving to continuously increase the production rate at its engine assembly plant located in Singapore. The company has been working hard to develop the new Trent 7000 as well as various other new technologies which can potentially be utilized on future engines.

Rolls-Royce also produces fan blades in Singapore for use on the Trent XWB, Trent 1000, and Trent 900 engines. The director for Rolls-Royce in Singapore, Bicky Bhangu, said that the company made 3,100 fan blades last year in Singapore and is currently increasing production rates to achieve annual production of around 7,600 blades by the end of the year 2017.

In past years, most of the engine development typically took place in Europe. Upon successful testing of the engines in the United Kingdom, the production would then be transferred to Singapore. This is the case for the Trent 1000 as well as the Trent 900.

The company recently announced that with the Trent 7000, Rolls-Royce Singapore will also be collaborating in the development process of the engine. The Rolls-Royce Singapore facility will also be assembling the Trent 7000, which is the engine that will power the Airbus A330neo. Bhangu suggested that despite the fact that the first two test engines will be produced in Derby, England, Rolls-Royce Singapore will be utilizing test cells in order to test the Trent 7000 and will also be assembling the test engines.

AirAsia X and Delta Air Lines have already placed orders on the A330neo. The Rolls-Royce company strives to have the Trent 7000 certified near the first quarter of 2017. The company hopes to have entry into service by the fourth quarter of that same year.

Rolls-Royce will be participating in the Singapore Airshow’s Education Day in efforts to engage the next generation. The company will be showing the work that they encounter and hopes to have its Trent 1000 engine on display for the attendees.
