Alaskan Airlines has been able to come to an agreement with satellite connectivity company Gogo for new innovations. Going forth, Gogo is to renovate Alaskan Airlines fleet with 2ku satellite-based Ku-band in-flight connectivity technology.
The following renovations are to take place the current and following year. Participants in the renovations are Alaskans’ Boeing and Airbus aircrafts.
The transformation of the Alaskan Airlines fleet will begin during the first 6 months of the year 2018. The aircraft that has been chosen to start with the integrations has been the Boeing 737 aircraft.
With Gogo facilities working countless hours they have estimated to complete 40 to 50 aircrafts with a full integration of equipment by the end of the 2018. Only a couple of Alaskan aircrafts as Alaskan Air group has recently added aircrafts to its fleet. In the year 2016 Alaskan invested 2.6 billion dollars back into their own company to be able to obtain the entire Virgin America fleets.
Per Chief commercial officer at Alaskan Airlines, Andrew Harrison assures that Gogo is the right fit for their company and will have a significant impact to their aircrafts.
We conducted an extensive review to find a satellite Wi-Fi solution that has a proven track record with commercial airlines and will meet our guest's expectations for what they want to do in the air today, but will also continue to meet their needs in the future,
Alaskans main concern for these latest integrations is to be able to allow their customers to experience a better connectivity in air as they would on the ground. Alaska also offers a free messaging network courtesy of their previous addition Virgin America. The Alaska free messaging system already allows people to use to use certain applications such as whatsAPP, imessage , facebook messenger and more to be used at an altitude of 35000. To date there have been a total of 1 million that have used the Alaskans free Connections and numbers will only continue to increase.
